If you have an interest in dancing, and you live in or visit Melbourne, then this site will be of interest to you.
Although the name of the site is “Dancing in Melbourne”, it covers dancing within the approximate geographic area of 100 or so kilometres of the Melbourne CBD. On the “Dance Teachers” page of the site there is a link to Google Maps to help you find your dance teacher or studio of interest.
On the left hand margin of each page there are links to dance venues, dance teachers, dance styles, dance bands and dance suppliers. As the relevant information is forwarded to me, I shall have it listed on those pages in alphabetical order.
Each of the days of the week are also listed as pages. Classes and/or social dance sessions on those particular days are listed in chronological order.
The site covers any style of dancing, and it is completely FREE for any dance venue or dance teacher to have their relevant information listed. The information we require from you to be placed on this site includes:
The name of your business or dance studio or venue or band etc.
Contact details such as address, telephone numbers (email address is optional, you will need to personally weigh up the pros and cons of having it listed. One of the big cons being increased spam)

This site is one of a suite of sites that are listed in the Australian Dance Directory. A Dance Blog site is a part of that directory also. Blogs will be published at least weekly on anything of interest concerning dance in Australia. If you have interesting information re up and coming events, let me know via email and I shall share it with all readers. You are able to subscribe to the blog and automatically have any new entries emailed to you.
If you are a dance teacher, or if you conduct a dance venue, then you may also have a web page on this site. There will be a once only set up cost of $110 (Including GST) to cover the time involved in building and publishing the page, keeping it in the same style as the rest of the site, in addition to a yearly maintenance fee of $27.50 (including GST), which will also cover up to four minor changes to the web page during the year if required. Your page can include logos and/or photos, provided these are forwarded to me with either gif or jpeg extensions. If you would like a home page on this site, then prepare a suggested layout, with content, as a word document and email it to me
Your help in letting dance teachers, dance venues, disc jockeys, bands, dance suppliers and any other relevant people know about this site would be greatly appreciated. To keep the site free, I have made it advertisement supported. The Google ads in the footer of each page will be related to the content on the particular page.
Once the word is out there, and there are a heap of listings on the site, I will be working at getting the site optimized to get high search engine rankings, especially with Google which currently gets a staggering 50.8% of the search engine market.
Two things that will help with the Google rankings are 1. back links (links from your site to this one) and 2. Content. The more original, searchable and relevant content on this site, the better the chances of having it optimized.
You will notice a Google search box on every page of this site. This search box gives the option of a search on this site, or an external search. Good and relevant information on your home page on this site will certainly help you to get hits. For example, if someone types in “Sunday classes ballroom”, and your home page has just that content, then it will come up in the search results.
Dance Suppliers
A new page for Dance Suppliers has been added during July 2007, to each of the following regional Dance Sites:

As with other listings on these sites, listings for dance suppliers is FREE. Listings will appear in alphabetical order of the relevant firm names on each particular site. If the Dance Supply firm has a web site, a link will be provided to that web site, provided a reciprocal link is provided back to the Dance Site on which the advertisement appears.
In addition to the free listing advertising, dance Suppliers also have the option of paid advertisements on any page of any of the associated Dance Web Sites. These advertisement will be approximately 700 pixels wide by 215 pixels high, (with a size variation of no more than plus or minus 10% on these dimensions.) The advertisements may be either a static Gif image which is linked to the firm’s web site, or a Macromedia Flash movie which is also linked. Examples are given below.
The cost of these advertisements will vary depending upon which page on each site they appear. The cost of an advertisement on the home page of any site is $25.00 per month. Advertisements on the second, third and fourth pages of any site are $15.00 per month, and advertisements on any other page are $10.00 per month. All advertising fees include GST, and are to be paid yearly in advance.
Firms placing more than one advertisement will be entitled to discounts off the total calculated costs as follows: two ads. less 10% , three ads. less 15%, four ads. less 20% and five or more ads. less 25%.
A firm wishing to place an advertisement on the same page of each of the twelve regional sites, will pay only 50% of the total calculated cost.(That is, six times the cost of placing one advertisement on a particular page of one site.)
There will also be a once only cost of preparing the advertisement. For the static Gif advertisement the cost is $110 (including GST) and for the Flash Movie, the cost is $275 (including GST). The above pricing is on the basis that any art work for logos and pictures etc., is provided. Firms providing a Gif or a Jpeg image for their advertisements within the dimensions given above will not incur a charge for advertisement preparation.
Firms other than Dance Supply firms, may also request to have advertisements placed on these sites. However, whether or not these advertisements are placed will be up to Ian McKenzie’s discretion.
